A Blatant Misuse of Power: Zambry chooses to award land to henchman over the rakyat

According to written answer given by the most recent state assembly (August 3, 2010), a parcel of land was “stolen” from the rakyat by UMNO crony. The land, situated in Kampung Sungai Itek, Gopeng and measuring 50 acres was awarded to a company called Safura House of Diamonds Sdn. Bhd. for Rancangan Perkampungan Tersusun (RPT).
This piece of land is farm to several aquafarmers and vegetables farmers who have for years,
attempted to apply for legal status on this land but to no avail. No reasons were ever given for
their unsuccessful applications.
Realising that something was amiss, I did a background check on Safura House of Diamonds Sdn
Bhd and discovered a shocking revelation. One of the main shareholders of the company (50%)
is Major (R) Roslan bin Zakaria (580328-08-5671) who happens to be the Deputy Chief of
UMNO Gopeng Division cum councilor of the Ipoh City Council!
The state government under YB Dato’ Seri Dr. Zambry Abdul Kadir (who is also the UMNO
state chief) rejected the applications of the farmers who have been working on that land for
years, and instead awarding it to developer who is closely connected to him, has committed a
grave offence.
This action reeks of corruption and cronyism at the highest level in the state of Perak. Dato’ Seri
Zambry Abdul Kadir has clearly stepped out of line by using his executive powers to enrich his
men at the expense of the rakyat.
I would like to stress that this is not an isolated case. 8 months ago (December 16, 2009), I have
lodged a report with the MACC against government under Dato’ Seri Zambry for giving a quota
of 10 lot of lands to UMNO Gopeng Division Chief, Datuk Hamzah Mohd Kassim.
I strongly condemn this heinous act, especially when committed by the highest ranking officer of
the state. The flagrant corrupt practice shows that UMNO Barisan Nasional has rotten to its core!
I also would like to take MACC to task for sitting on reports that have been lodged with them.
Cases involving high ranked individuals seem to sit idle on the desks of the MACC officer as if
they are afraid to take action against the people who walk in the corridors of power.
I hope MACC would prove us wrong in this case, by acting swiftly and prosecute those
responsible to the court of justice without fear or favour!
In order to avoid similar corrupt practice in the future, I also would like to urge:
1) Dato’ Seri Zambry to be suspended from the Menteri Besar post, or at least chairman post
of the Land Committee pending investigation.
2) Abrogate the land approval to Safura House of Diamond Sdn Bhd and award the land to
the farmers.
3) Allow Pakatan Rakyat reps to attend meeting of the land committee, in order to have a
check and balance system.
4) Dato’ Dr. Mah Hang Soon as the only non-UMNO exco, should explain to the rakyat
why did he allow such blatant abuse of power by UMNO?
