Dr Lee Boon Chye: Dissolve Eight-man Speacial Panel
Sabtu, 8 Mei 2010
Dr Lee Boon Chye, Vice President of Parti Keadilan Rakyat, urged the Prime Minister Dato Seri Najib Tun Razak to dissolve the Eight-man Special Panel on Investigations into the Shooting of Aminulrasyid. The only way to find out the truth is via a Royal Commission of Enquiry. He strongly felt that the setting up of the eight-man Special Panel is a waste of time and its only purpose is more of a public relation exercise.
Dr Lee, who is also Member of Parliament, Gopeng explained that under the previous Prime Minister Tun Abdullah Badawi, there were numerous Royal Commissions (on Lingam-gate, on Police Force Reform and on Nude-squat incidence in lock-up), which managed to reveal the truth, even though saddled with in-action.
The Najib administration, however has the propensity in setting up special task force(s) which revealed nothing. Three other task force(s) since Najib took over as Prime Minister include:
1. 7th Oct 2009 : PKFZ super task force headed by chief secretary to the government Tan Sri Mohd Sidek Hassan to restore the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) project and identify measures for its development and to determine the type of misconduct or criminal element on the part on individuals or entities involved in the project and recommended actions to be taken against them. So far only “small-fries” were charged in court and the ‘big-fishes” are still swimming freely.
2. 27th Oct 2009 : Special task force of investigation headed by Education director-general Tan Sri Alimuddin Mohd Dom to look into the Kuala Dipang tragedy in which three primary school pupils were drowned while crossing a river at a 1-Malaysia camp organised by Education Ministry for primary school-going children. So far no further action has come out of it.
3. 30th Oct 2009 : A high-powered task force, headed by chief secretary to the government Tan Sri Mohd Sidek Hassan, to study the 2008 Auditor-General’s report and initiate appropriate action against those responsible for financial irregularities and abuse of power mentioned in the report. So far no further action has come out of the task force.
Dr Lee also reminded on the assault on Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim at Bukit Aman on 20th Sept 1998 by the then IGP Tan Sri Rahim Noor. A special task force headed by a high ranking police officer from Melacca failed to provide the answer, even though the truth was glaringly obvious. Not until the setting up of the Royal Commission of Enquiry five months later did Tan Sri Rahim Noor admitted to the crime.
Therefore in the shooting incidence of Aminulrasyid, where an innocence young boy has died, the setting up of the eight-man Special Panel is a waste of time. The only way for PM Najib Tun Razak to show his sincerity in revealing the truth and restoring his credibility is via a Royal Commission of Enquiry.
